Step 1: Choosing a suitable niche & name for your blog: To become successful (and make money) as early as possible, you should focus on a single niche. Think about which topic you are passionate about, how can you help people through your topic, what is the competition? Niches like Lifestyle, fashion, beauty, health, fitness, food, parenting, personal finances, etc. are well established for money-making, so you can think along the line. Once you have decided on your niche choose your domain name. Your domain name will be your unique address. It’ll be the first impression your readers will have of you, so choose it wisely. My tip is to keep it short, unique, catchy, and memorable.

Step 2: Select a Blogging platform: To start a blog you’ll require a software service using which you can create, publish and manage your blog i.e. you require Blogging platforms. Here is a list of the top blogging platforms (some free, some paid) – WordpPress.com (free), WordPress.org (self-hosted), Squarespace, Gator Website Builder by HostGator, Blogger, Tumblr, Weebly, Medium, etc. Consider factors such as cost, your technical knowledge, features available, etc. while choosing. Platforms like WordPress.com don’t give you money for the ads played on your blogs. If you are looking to make money through ads, WordPress.org, Squarespace, etc. are more suitable. As one of my Blogging tips, I suggest selecting WordPress.org.

Step 3: Select a hosting service & create a hosting account: After selecting your blogging platform, choose a reliable hosting service provider. They enable you to publish your blog and make sure that it is always available on the internet. Bluehost, HostGator, GoDaddy, Hostinger, InMotion, DreamHost, SiteGround, etc. are some of the top hosting service providers. Most of the hosting providers come with free domains (at least for the first year). And also, we have already decided on our domain name in the first step only, so no worries here. Just make sure that the domain name is available. Thus, you simply need to sign up with your chosen hosting service provider, choose from the various plans available, put in the domain name you have selected and you are done with buying your hosting space to store your blogs, files, etc along with the domain name. You have successfully created a hosting account.

Step 4: Setup the look of your blog: Once you have created a hosting account, install the blogging platform. On the platform, you can choose the themes/templates you want or customize if you have the coding skills and create the look of your blog.

Step 5: Start blogging: Now that you have a hosting account and your blogging platform installed and designed the look of your blog, you can begin with actual blogging. Remember that you need to be consistent with your blogs. Two blogs per week are advisable, but a minimum of one is necessary. Remember there is no hard and fast format for your blog. Keep it conversational and avoid jargons. Keep it open to comments to understand the feedback and if possible engage in the comments too.
